Employment Outlook
Will I get a job?
Students who successfully complete one of the VLC's Medical Transcription courses can confidently pursue employment as an independent transcriptionist, or with one of the many companies that hire our students.
Medical transcription is a growing field with great employment prospects for accurate and efficient workers. A skilled medical transcriptionist can find employment with a hospital or healthcare office, or work full-time from home. According to U.S. Department of Labor, the number of medical transcriptionists employed in the United States is expected to grow by up to 35% by 2010.
"Employment of medical transcriptionists is projected to
grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010. Demand for medical
transcription services will be spurred by a growing and aging population... Growing numbers of
medical transcriptionists will be needed to amend patients' records, edit for grammar, and discover
discrepancies in medical records." - U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Employment Handbook
VLC graduates are able to find work as independent transcriptionists, or as employees of a regional service. See what they have to say about the job market, and about the education they received at the VLC.
