Student Quotes

We receive so many letters from our students that we decided to share more of them with you in the new year. The following are notes, quotes, and excerpts from e-mails sent to the VLC by our students and grads. All are unsolicited and used with their permission.

Bev, Carol, and Shelia.

I just wanted to let you all know that I started my first job as a medical transcriptionist this past Monday [July 2004]. I am working as an IC for Ascott Transcription Services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Of course, it is very early, but so far it is going very well.

As the three of you were my "main" instructors, I just wanted to thank you for giving me the knowledge base to make this possible.

Thanks!
Renee

Bev,

I wanted to let you know that I got a job! Thank you so much for all of your help that you've given me during this course. Even as difficult as this last part of the course has been for me, I'm so thankful for all of the practice that I have had. When I took the test for this job I was so appreciative of all of the dictation that we got in this course. I did really well on the test, and I know that it was due to the hours and hours of dictation practice!

Update (January 2005): I have been working for MedQuist now for almost six months and am very happy with the job. It continues to be a daily learning process (it seems we never quit learning new things) as a working MT. Thank you again, for the excellent training!

Julie

Hi Carol,

I'm actually just about finished, yay!! It's been a very long road for me, I started about 2-1/2 years ago. I figure it's better to take a long time than not to finish at all. Hopefully I did enough transcription through school to prepare me for what's ahead.

On a personal note, I wanted you to know how much you have helped me. I've been here long enough to see what changes/improvements have been made. Up until I started the SUM units, I thought my work was good (from the feedback given on my reports), but come to find out, I was doing a lot of things incorrectly. Once you started grading the reports, I was discouraged at how badly I was doing (compared to previous transcription units). However, I started finding out how much I was learning from my mistakes and valued the feedback tremendously. Thanks for actually looking at the reports.

Have a good day :)

Jeanette

Hi Carol,

Thank you for grading my reports, I was very pleased with the outcome. I just took a job with Healthscribe. I was gone for their training and just got back from there. I will start working on Tuesday. I could not have done it, if it wasn't for the VLC schooling that I had taken. It is a very good course and I enjoyed every bit of it. The instructors were all great and I learned a great deal from this course. I am not one to post my good news all over the site but I just wanted to let you know that I am on my way. It has been a long road and I have accomplished what I set out to do. I had a full time job as well and worked a lot of overtime hours while staying with my studies. I switched jobs and went for my experience in a hospital setting and just completed that and received my job.

"I graduated about 3 weeks ago [April 2004] and am happy to report that I have accepted an independent contract home MT job. I will be working for Infopro out of Augusta, GA. They are very friendly and eager to get me started and trained. They are not pushing for production and I set my schedule for as little or as much as I want.

"I got this job as a result of going through the sourcebook that the VLC sent me. I had way more luck with this than going through the internet and dealing with big companies. I just took one state per day and focused on calling or e-mailing the ones that did not say that they required a specific amount of experience. Infopro asked for a resume and a sample of my work. So, I would tell others to save a smattering of their best work in a variety of areas. It was really what helped me."

Denise Nunn, Oklahoma

"I just wanted to drop you a line and let your know that I did find a job. I was hired about two weeks after I graduated from the course by USA Medtrans."

Amy Brown, Illinois

"Thanks also for making the course fun as well as interesting… [Sheila and Carole] have a dedication and professional spirit that goes above and beyond what most people would expect. That helped make the course even more valuable."

Paul Duhaime, South Carolina

"I just wanted to thank you for all your help and encouragement throughout the course. I graduated August 1st [2003] and was offered a job today [September 15th] by RI Unlimited. I am so thankful to have a job and to have had such great training. Again, thank you for all the encouragement when those doctors were hard to understand in [the] Forrest General [module].""

Karen Hall, Missouri

"I got a job with Zygomed on Friday. They are a transcription company based out of Miami, Florida…. I took an online test with them on Thursday afternoon, and someone called me on Friday afternoon and offered me an independent contractor's position. She said I did excellent on the test! …Thanks again for all of your help with the course, and for encouraging me to 'til the end."

Karan Keim, Georgia

"I just want to say again how pleased I am that I took my training with the VLC, and had such wonderful instructors as [Carole] and Sheila. Thank you for your part in making my dream of becoming a medical transcriptionist come true. I am very excited about this opportunity to learn and gain valuable experience."

Kathy Norton, Texas

"I just got off the phone with Medquist, and they have found me a position out of the Denver office. I'll have three accounts to start… Yes, I am excited! Thank you so much for helping me get to this point."

Deb Miller, Colorado

"I have taken other online courses over the year, and I must say, this course is not a waste of time or money. The material is well prepared, the feedback from the instructor is very helpful, any questions that I have are answered promptly. The tests are an excellent way of knowing where you stand with the course and how much you are getting out of the course. This system of online learning is the only system I found that is well prepared.

Angela Michael

"I could not say enough good things about the VLC Course. The thing that caught my attention about it was the cost and what I would receive for the amount that I had to pay. It was the least expensive of all of the courses that I checked out, and offered the most!

I love working at my own pace. My husband and I are full-time youth pastors, we have two small children and I work full time, so I needed something that would allow me to work around the rest of my life.

The courses are very self-explanatory, but if I do have any questions, I always get a quick reply from my instructor! I would recommend this course to anyone that is looking to better him or herself."

Wendy Davis

"I feel that the language and the real-life training offered by this program give it an A-1 rating. I also think that we have the greatest teachers and mentors available to assist us with our training needs. I would highly recommend this course to anyone considering taking an online medical transcription course."

Sincerely,
One satisfied student.
Sheri Lynn Andrews

"I have really enjoyed the course so far, particularly being able to talk to someone and get answers for questions and clarifications. It is really neat! I've also been extremely pleased at how timely the responses to questions and corrections to our submitted work have been. I had never done anything online before and was a little leery, but not now."

Nan Kessler

"Now that I am well into the course, I can honestly say that I made the very best choice. The course is incredibly thorough and written in a way that makes it understandable. I graduated from college as a registered nurse, and am amazed at how much more I am learning because of the way the material is presented. Just wish I could have enjoyed studying as much when I was in college oh-so-many years ago…

If you have decided, as I have, that medical transcription is your new career choice, then choosing to enroll in the MIME Medical Transcription Course should be you first step."

Gayla Rakoski

"Of all the courses to learn Medical Transcription online, I chose [the VLC] for two reasons. It was affordable, and the course is set up so that one can study at their own pace.

You're not rushed to complete a test or chapters before you are ready. The chapters provide all the information needed and are downloadable to your computer. They are not easy chapters and studying is necessary. But the tests, when you are ready to take them, are straightforward and well set up."

Julie Kaczmarczyk

"I just wanted to take a moment from your busy schedule to personally thank you for the additional commitment you are making for our training. I spent hours researching where I wanted to take MT training and after weighing all the options, the VLC was by far the best. Thanks for your time and I really am proud that I have chosen this course and will certainly tell all of my friends!"

Martha Moore (beginning MT student)

"I am currently a student with VLC and have almost finished with it. I have found it to be a great course. It has everything the high priced schools have and more. I have a friend who went through [another course] and she did not get half the support that I have with VLC. [In] the first part of the course, you will refresh your punctuation and grammar skills, learn medical terminology, and the rules of transcription. My instructor Carole grades my work very quickly, gives feedback on what you are doing wrong, and is a wonderful mentor."

Jan Johnson

"I am thoroughly impressed with your customer service. Sarah is a real asset to your company, and the teamwork you have demonstrated [in helping] is refreshing. It has further confirmed my feeling that I made the right choice when choosing VLC for my MT training! Although this is a web-based training course, I feel I have had more contact and feedback from your company than I would have in a classroom-based program. Thank you, Bev and Sarah, for your excellent customer service! Without viewing the tapes and going through the workbooks I know I would have gotten more questions wrong. I’m sure I wouldn’t have done as well without the videos."

S. Perron

I am very happy with the training I received through the VLC. I did get a job about one month after graduating - I am working part-time as an IC.

Lynn Olsen

I took the position for an opening for a lady out in California. She is very nice to work with and is very pleased with the work I have been turning in. She carries on about how good a job I have been doing. I think the main reason I have such praise coming from her is because of the training I received.

I have an Extended Care doctor and have all the work I can handle. She is paying me .065 cents per line and I am pleased with progress I have made. She is available for help and I can be in direct contact with via email or instant messaging most of the time. There are also some of her other employees that I stay in contact with to get help from occasionally.

Thank you again for all your help and excellent training. I did not realize how good it was until I started working and my employer and one of her employees who has been working for her for 5 years kept fussing about it. I don't want to brag because it was not me, but the school's training, and I am passing this on to you!
